The Medieval Age is commonly referred to as the period between the fall of the Roman Empire, and the rebirth of classical learning and art known as the Renaissance.
The Medieval Age saw the development of the <l:7,2>Theocracy<e>, in the form of the Papal States. Christian <l:4,140>theology<e> and education were formed in this period, culminating with the works of Thomas Aquinas. The feudalistic society and the code of <l:4,139>Chivalry<e> developed in this period, and combined with the idea of holy war to produce the Crusades.
The population growth resulting from the <l:4,26>Agricultural Revolution<e> of the 10th century led to the growth of towns and cities, where <l:4,153>Gothic Architecture<e> was designed, and, with the knowledge obtained during the Crusades, laid the foundations for the Renaissance.
